Home Made Ice Cream at 176 Middlesex Road in Tyngsboro Massachusetts

Great Turnout in 2012

The forecast for Chelmsford’s annual John Carson 2 mile Road Race was for a couple of early morning showers to give way to a sunny, steamy, typical July 4th type of day. Meteorologists were right on and as runners came out from under the route 3 overpass the sky seemed to magically turn blue. The smell of the left over rain evaporating from the freshly paved roads just added to the atmosphere of the day as runners made their way up to North Road and streets that were lined with thousands of spectators. The early morning mist did very little to keep away spectators…or runners. We had a record turnout this year with over 2140 completing the race including Ruben Sanca who covered the 2 miles in a just 9:10. He resides in Dracut but will be representing Cape Verde in the upcoming London Olympics. We certainly wish him luck there. For the women, 30 year old Jennifer Donovan from Framingham had one of the top 5 fastest times we have seen. She had an blazing time of 10:34 to lead the women. We hope she will return in 2013 and take a shot at the course record of 10:06 set by Leslie Lehane in 1998. I hope everyone had a fun day. We always encourage folks to sign up ahead of time and if you tried to register late you know why. We did our best with those late sign-ups as the Chelmsford Police helped us out by rushing up some additional numbers so runners were able to register. We sold out of our race day shirts which was not a surprise as Dominic Romano, an 8th grader from Parker Middle School, did an incredible job with the art work. Thanks to all the race officials at the start of the race who keep the chaos under control as well as finish line crew who outdid themselves this year with soooo many finishers. We certainly need to thank all of the sponsors once again this year. They eagerly donate year after year and we cannot thank them enough and welcomed several new ones who we hope will return with refreshing beverages of all types. Through their generous donations we are able to do more fun things with the race and contribute to several scholarship funds. All prizes will be mailed out by the end of the week of July 20th. If you won a prize and do not see it by then, please email sulfarms@aol.com.
